Sara Chivers, a dear customer of Mister Zimi, was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in 2017. She was just 34 years old.
Tragically, Sara's 18 month old son, Alfie, was also diagnosed with an aggressive, unrelated and rare form of brain cancer shortly after.
In a heartbreakingly short period of time, Sara and Alfie both lost their battles with cancer in 2018.
It is impossible not to be deeply moved by Sara and Alfie’s story.
Sadly, they are not alone, with statistics around brain cancer ever-growing. Survival rates for brain cancer are staggeringly low, with only 22% of those diagnosed living more than 5 years. It also kills more children and Australian adults under 40 than any other disease.
Mister Zimi is incredibly proud to partner with Sara's family in supporting paediatric brain cancer research through the Sara Candle. All proceeds of the Sara Candle go towards the Alfie Chivers Project, an initiative by the Hudson Institute of Medical Research, funded by the Robert Connor Dawes (RCD) Foundation.
With everyone's help, we hope that the funds raised through the sale of the Sara Candle can make an impact through critical research to end brain cancer.
Not only was Sara a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, she was also an unbelievably brave young woman. Her story is best told in her own words here.
