The Sara Bag

Supporting Brain Matters - In loving memory of Sara Chivers

We have always loved seeing Mister Zimi worn in the happy and colourful moments of our customer's lives. But of course, life is not always perfect.

Earlier this year we were told about a customer of ours named Sara Chivers, who in 2017 had a reoccurrence of an aggressive brain tumour, first diagnosed in 2008. Not long after being told of this, Sara and her family received the heartbreaking news that her 18-month old son, Alfie, also had an aggressive, unrelated and rare form of brain cancer.

Sadly, Sara and Alfie lost their battles with cancer earlier this year.

Sara told her story so perfectly in her own words in an article published in the February 2018 edition of Vogue. This article highlights how Sara was an unbelievably brave, intelligent and beautiful young woman, and her story which you can read here has both moved and inspired so many, including our team at Mister Zimi.

Brain Cancer like so many other cancers has some alarming statistics, and we were shocked to learn that there has been little progress made in the last 30 years in regard to its treatment and outcomes. But perhaps the most shocking statistic of all is that Brain Cancer kills more children than any other disease.

The Sara Bag

In an effort to make a small difference we have produced the Sara Bag. All proceeds from the sale of this bag will be donated to the Robert Connor Dawes (RCD) Foundation, a special charity chosen by Sara's family.

Unfortunately Sara and Alfie's story is not an isolated one, and there are so many other families that have been impacted by this disease. The RCD Foundation is dedicated to furthering research in the area of paediatric brain tumours and providing support and care to those in need.  They are doing a tireless and remarkable job to make a difference for those families impacted.

More information about the RCD Foundation can be found here.

We are so pleased to be able to partner with Sara's family and the RCD Foundation to offer our customers a way to contribute to such an important cause, and in the process shine a light on the memory of our beautiful customer Sara and her dear son Alfie.

The Sara Bag

The Sara Bag is hand-made from seagrass with colourful pom pom detail and cotton lining.

All proceeds from the sale of the Sara Bag will be donated to the RCD Foundation, a special charity chosen by Sara's family.

THANK YOU. The response to the Sara Bag has been AMAZING, and we cannot thank everyone enough for their involvement. With your help we have been able to sell through 500 Sara Bags!! We never expected to sell through the stock we produced so quickly. We have been doing our best to establish a re-order for those that missed out, however unfortunately this will not be possible. Instead we will start focusing on another project to help ‘switch off’ brain cancer. We have unfinished business, so please stay tuned. Thank you to those that purchased a bag today and also to those that missed out. We are sorry we underestimated the response by so much. We are so grateful to Sara’s family for the opportunity to name this initiative after their beautiful daughter, sister, wife and mother. Sara is an inspiration and her’s and Alfie’s story has moved so many. All funds from the bags we have sold will go directly to the RCD Foundation, a worthy charity focused on supporting paediatric brain cancer research and families impacted by brain cancer. For those that missed out today but would still like to make a contribution, this can be done via the RCD Foundation website or through the link in our bio. Thank you again.
